I went to Google Directory to try to find some information and was surprised to see that it's no longer available. The official statement from the search giant is that they believe that Web Search is the fastest means to locate the needed content on the web. I wen further to suggest visiting DMOZ (the Open Directory Project) for those who prefer to browse a web directory.![]() If you still remember, Google Directory was the second Internet-based service the company went into way back in the year 2000, to be a competitor to Yahoo Directory, which was the most popular web directory at that time. From onset, Google Directory used DMOZ data and it was just a duplicate of the ODP. The only way to get listed in Gogle Directory was simply by your site being included in DMOZ first. See a snapshot of the web directory below before it was gone. ![]() |
